DIGITON CORPORATION COMPLETES 10th YEAR UPDATE
ON DURHAM’S IMAGE AND IDENTITY
Data Shows Image Among Residents High
HOLLY SPRINGS, NC, June, 2003 – Digiton Corporation, Inc., a collaborative strategic marketing and e-services company announces findings about the image of various communities in North Carolina. Among the similar-sized cities of Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Durham and Raleigh, Durham has the most positive image according to residents surveyed within a 100 mile radius of Durham, followed by Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and Raleigh.
The recent analysis concluded that Durham residents continue to have a strong core image of Durham as a place to live and visit. However, Durham still receives intense media coverage of negative individual behaviors that are often associated with the community. Neighboring communities’ residents regard Durham less highly than its own residents. However, the research showed that residents polled from Wake County appear to be even more conflicted about the image of Raleigh.
Dr. Mitch Javidi, CEO and Founder of Digiton Corporation, has worked collaboratively over the last 10 years with the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau to provide a snapshot of that community’s self image as well as Durham’s image and identity within nearby communities.
“Digiton’s work has helped DCVB unwrap and identify the underlying problems related to Durham’s image and identity,” according to Reyn Bowman, President & CEO of the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This information has been the foundation to guide promotion, marketing and communication solutions for Durham.”
The 2003 study’s sample size included 400 Durham County residents, 400 Wake County residents, 400 Orange County residents, 200 residents within a 100 mile radius of Durham and 200 residents within 100 miles East of Durham. All participants were over the age of 19. The entire sample size margin of error was +/-2.5%.
Questions about the findings should be directed to Dr. Mitch Javidi (Digiton) at 577-0800 or Reyn Bowman (Durham CVB) at 680-8300.
